Berber silver enamel pendant necklace with Phenolic resin amber beads

A modern ethnic necklace featuring a stunning antique silver and enameled Berber pendant from Ait Ouaouzguit as the centerpiece surrounded by golden faux amber resin beads.

Dating to early 20th century, the pendant has etched designs in silver on one side and still retains hints of saffron yellow and sage green enamel on the other side. Historically, this type of pendant appeared in pairs to further adorn traditional Moroccan fibulae chains and is referred to as a “Bermil” pendant. I've designed this necklace to wear the pendant both front and back, however please note that the etched silver side has a slight dent. Still very beautiful though and as always with old ethnic jewelry, its part of the charm!

The bermil pendant is framed by 2 small antique silver Afghani beads which lead to the yummiest creamy yellow antique Phenolic amber beads. Traded throughout Africa as “Amber”, these resin beads were manufactured in Germany in the 1920s to 1930s. While they are not genuine amber, high quality Phenolic amber or “African Amber” is currently almost as collectible as the real thing.

This piece is finished with 2 more old silver Afghani beads and a sterling silver clasp.

Very lightweight, this designer necklace makes an elegant statement and will complement today’s tribal style and fashions or add a contrast to a more modern wardrobe. Wear it alone or layer with other bold necklaces for a modern ethnic look.

Finished length: 19" long plus pendant 2.1" high x 1.5 wide / 48.5cm long plus pendant 54cm high x 40cm wide

Sterling silver clasp and elements.

This one of a kind necklace is named "Aigle", which is a Greek name meaning "radiance, splendor" and in mythology, Aigle was a goddess of good health.
