Spectacular Moroccan necklace | rare Ait Ouaouzguit pendant and antique Berber headdress ornaments on sterling silver chain
Okay wow. In the souk of Taradount there is a shop (appointment only!) that has the most wondrous collection and selection of antique Moroccan jewelry and this is where I found this beautiful red glass and enamel piece that takes center stage in this spectacular necklace.
Over 100 years old and from the Ait Ouaouzguit tribe which is renowned and prized for its silversmiths and beautiful colors of enamel. A large square red glass element is enclosed in silver and a nice amount of the original turquoise blue and saffron yellow enamel. Framed by 6 antique Berber headdress ornaments reimagined here as pendants and from each dangles an antique Moroccan coin. The pendants hang on 3 strands of chunky oxidized sterling silver rolo chain to provide a thoroughly modern take on traditional Berber jewelry.
Sterling silver clasp and sterling silver extender chain embellished with an antique red white-heart bead, large sterling silver granulated spacers and an old Moroccan coin.
Adjustable length – see photos for styling options. All findings and elements are sterling silver. Note: expect a little bit of weight due to all of the silver, but perfectly comfortable to wear all day.
One of a kind, with a beautiful drape and nice movement and a real statement piece of collectible jewelry that is easily wearable – imagine with a black leather jacket, white shirt and jeans or a night out or at your next zoom meeting.
Finished length: 18” + 4” (45.7cm + 10cm)
Centre pendant + coin: 2.5” high x 1 5/8” wide (63mm high x 41mm wide)
