This beautiful Ida Ou Nadif niello and red glass pendant stars in this modern ethnic necklace. Very rare and highly collectible antique red Venetian glass beads are a deep cherry color with a hint of translucence. These were traded throughout Africa and are referred to as Samburu beads as they were a central design element in elephant hair collars worn by the Samburu tribe in Africa.
Framing the Moroccan niello pendant are antique silver Sahrawi amulets, Moroccan coins and Afghan silver drops with Berber silver spacers. (The club and spear shape of the pendants are derived from the same symbols found on both ancient Tarot and modern playing cards and were regarded as symbols of protection by the Sahrawi people).
This striking one of a kind necklace is a real investment piece.
Finished with a sterling silver clasp, sterling silver extender chain which is embellished with one more Samburu bead and Sahrawi amulet.
Finished length: 15.75” (40cm) + 3.5” extender chain (9cm)
